  1. Why do links in Outlook messages ignore the default browser settings and open with Edge ?

Until one of the recent updates, all was working properly. Now all links that arrive in email in Outlook open with Edge, even though Firefox is set as the default browser and for all protocols that I am able to change. Edge is now shown only for those "Microsoft Edge" protocols where Windows will not allow a different selection. It is frustrating. I don't use Edge, and don't have my bookmarks or password manager available, so it is a time waster. Is there something that I can set in Outlook to override this behaviour?

    :)

  2. How to prevent Microsoft ignoring a default browser settings?

Microsoft is so eager to propagate its Edge that it even ignores a setting for a default browser. I use Chrome but many MS apps opens Edge instead. For example Bing Wallpaper. But there are many more, which open a link in Edge ignoring the settings. This is not a bug, this is an intention. Is there any secret settings which tells Microsoft apps to use the default browser?

Why do links in Outlook messages ignore the default browser settings and open with Edge ?

    Default browser ignored

I have had the same problem, but only with links from within Outlook. I use "Set Default Programs" in Control Panel to change the default browser.

If I set the default program to Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox, everything is fine, and all links (whether in outlook or elsewhere) open correctly in the correct browser. However, that's not the case when I change the default program to Internet Explorer
    11. When IE11 is the default program, whenever I click on a link in Outlook, I get a pop-up saying "what app would you like to use to open this file". If I select IE and tick the box of "always use this app", I still get the pop-up the next time I open a
    link in outlook.

Given that Microsoft Edge is unusable at the moment, due to it being incredibly slow and frequently crashing, it would be good to use Internet Explorer as the default browser.
