    Why do my Explorer folders keep crashing?


    I've probably been here for this issue a couple of dozen times seeking an answer since I got Windows 11 in 2021. It seems like lots of people have the same problem. It has never been completely resolved for me. I have done all the checks and changes suggested, some several times, including reinstalling Windows 11. Some of the changes seemed to work, but only temporarily. I regularly clean my computer, and frequently empty trash and clear cache. I have over 500GB available space on each drive. I doubled my RAM.The error mainly occurs when I'm working in my embroidery files opening zips, delet

    Windows explorer crashing

    Hi,

    I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
    Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

    I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

    In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

    Do you have any video clips in those folders?

    Bad codecs can sometimes crash explorer when he is trying to make a thumbnail representation of them...
