  1. why do my mirror raid drives always exhibit re-synchronizing?

New install of windows 11 pro OEM. I set up 2 NVme 2 4Tb drives as mirrored raid in Bios, and , later in windows but windows just keeps re-synchronizing the drives. I have securely erased them in Bios, reset them in windows but no change. Why? Windows 11 seems to be less competent at configurin drives than previous version. I am seriously thinking of moving to Zorin Linux. Very hacked off.

  2. RAID-3 on the cheap -- is it possible?

    Hi again, Rob,

The disks comprising a RAID do not have to spin synchronously.

I don't want to create a RAID for performance reasons. I want data integrity.

The RAID will be video ... a home theater.

I don't want a mirror because a mirror is wasteful.

I want the RAID striped so that it can be repaired, hence, RAID-3 or -5.

I don't need the parity bits to be distributed with the data as in RAID-5... a dedicated parity drive will do, hence, RAID-3.

It occurred to me that the parity drive can be 1/2 the size of the 2 data drives. All it would take is a driver that does compression. Do you know of one?

Moving Software Mirrored Drives To New PC

If it's a software RAID then there shouldn't be any issues simply moving the drives over, even if it were a hardware RAID, a mirror RAID is pretty forgiving and shouldn't break. You can break the mirror as suggested by play2mefish it won't harm anything since the drives are identical data.

why do my mirror raid drives always exhibit re-synchronizing?

2 Mirrored Raid drives to one SSD drive

So I am not sure if this is possible then to clone a mirrored raid to a SSD drive ? I was thinking about doing an image backup and then restoring to a SSD but what about cloning a mirrored raid to a ssd. Would their be driver issues or ? Or even this, what about cloning each drive in the raid with exact copy ?
