Windows 10: Why do my .sln files randomly start loading up blank in Visual Studio?

I just recently started C++, and when I first started a project, I saved the project to my computer. Then, I begin coding and press save when I make any major changes. Today after making large changes to my 3 projects, I pressed save and then closed the documents. Now, when I press "Open Project or Solution," I press on the solution .sln . Nothing loads; I just get a blank screen where my code usually is. I have restarted Visual Studio twice with no change, and the files say they have not been accessed in a couple of days... This is not true because I opened them and edited them today. My so

Unable to load .sln from zipped file into Visual Studio 2015

I downloaded the file "dotnet462RS1.zip" which is the reference source for .NET Framework 4.6.2. I saved the zipped file in a directory - 'D:\Rod's Documents\Visual Studio Reference Source Add In' on a hard drive on my Windows 10 Professional laptop. I
unzipped the file. I opened the unzipped .sln file in Visual Studio 2015. I get an error message that says:

C:\Users\Rod\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp5_dotnet462RS1.zip\Source\ndp\cdf\src\WCF\Tools\comsvcutil\ComSvcConfig.csproj : error : The project file could not be loaded. Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Users\Rod\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp5_dotnet462RS1.zip\Source\ndp\cdf\src\WCF\Tools\comsvcutil\ComSvcConfig.csproj'.

I have this problem - 'Could not find part of the path...' and for some reason Visual Studio is looking in a 'user\temp' directory for files every time I try to load a .sln file that has been zipped and unzipped. Is there a setting to correct this path
error?
