Why do several files on my computer now require permission to edit or delete when I am the... V07sJGavmlb9jmYCDmcJOiySkWuLtizgbTgBx9pLAf4.jpg

Just recently I found that I am not able to edit or delete any folders or files that happen to be on my laptop. At first I believed it was just on my desktop, but as I was putting together this post I found out that it seems to apply to all of my main folders except for downloads for some reason. I didn't notice this problem before the most recent few updates.

According to windows I should already have all of the necessary privileges and permissions to do anything I want to these files, but every single time I just keep getting the message in the image I included. I've restarted my computer in safe mode to delete certain files that gave me this problem recently, but that still doesn't help with all of the files I would like to keep. And I also would rather not have to go Is there a way to fix this, because I've tried all the common ways come up on google with no results.

    Thank you

  2. Deleting a file that requires permission from Administrator

I'm trying to delete a file that keeps telling me I need permission to perform this action. I require permission from Administrators to make changes to this file.

Now if I look under User Accounts on the control panel there is only ONE account listed: mine as administrator.

However, under the properies window for the file there are three:

    SYSTEM

    Administrators (DJ Hernandez\Administrators)

    Users (DJ Hernandez\Users)

The first two are listed as Full control on the Permissions tab of the Advanced Security Settings for the file. The Users is listed as Read. All three under Inherited From have C:\Program Data\Avg\Antivirus\

Is there any way that will allow me to get rid of this file? This belongs to a program that I have deleted using the Control Panel but it still shows up in the program listing under Programs and Features of the Control Panel.

    Editing permissions

    Hi ejmw,

Issues that you experience when you try to access files and folders may be related to permissions. Permissions are rules that determine whether you can access or change files and folders. To check permissions on a file or a folder, follow these steps:

    • Press and hold or right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
    • Tap or click the Security tab.
    • Under Group or user names, tap or click your name to see the permissions that you have.

To change the permissions of a file or folder, follow these steps:

    • Press and hold or right-click the file or folder, and then tap or click
      Properties
      .
    • Tap or click the Security tab.
    • Under Group or user names, tap or click your name to see the permissions that you have.
    • Tap or click Edit, tap or click your name, select the check boxes for the permissions that you must have, and then click
      OK.

Important: You must be logged on as an administrator to change permissions on files and folders.

Should you need further assistance, don't hesitate to get back to us.
