Why do some apps get boosted audio?

I've noticed that some apps like Spotify or Video from windows have this weird thing that happens to them:

For example, if I start playing some audio regularly say from my browser, and then switch to one of these windows either Spotify or Video, so that it is in focus after 1-2 seconds my audio suddenly boosts gets much louder. If I play audio fromthose windows, it also obviously boosts.

So, I was wondering if this was only an API thing where Windows could enter some kind of "dedicated audio" mode, or if a user could set it to always be on since sometimes I find that my speakers are a little quiet even at full volume.

    Any ideas?

    :)

  3. Can't boost microphone in Windows 10

Thanks for replying Why do some apps get boosted audio? :)

I did all the steps listed, but as shown in the screenshot above there is no Microphone Boost slider to modify. And in the "Custom" tab the Microphone Boost box is check-marked so I have no idea why its not showing.

    Audio Input

    Hi MJGAMER88,

This could be due to an incorrect audio setting or a compatibility issue with your streaming app. I'd like to get more information regarding this so we could further check and provide a more established workaround. Kindly answer the following:

    • Have you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • What is the make and model of your laptop?
    • What is the current build and version of your Windows 10?

In the meantime, here are the suggestions that you may try:

    • Install all the suggested Windows cumulative updates.
    • Download and install the latest audio driver from the manufacturer's website.
    • Check the MIC settings in your audio manager if MIC boost feature is turned on (depends on your sound card).
    • Try changing the MIC Boost level. Right click the Volume controller (Sound Icon) >
Recording Devices > right-click Microphone and click
Properties. Try turning down the Microphone Boost levels.
    • Fix sound problems.

    Update us with the results.
