    X, 2 people, or check marks on desktop shortcuts.

    I am running Windows 10. My desktop shortcuts sometimes display either a small gray X, an icon of 2 people, or a check mark in a green circle. Sometimes they rotate between the three every few seconds. This effects all desktop shortcuts. It does not happen all the time, but does often. It does not prevent use of the shortcuts. I have never set up or used One Drive. I do not have any cloud storage services installed. I do have shared local network RAID drives.

    The badges you're seeing on those icons indicates that you are using a cloud storage specially the "Green circle with a check mark" inside it.

    The gray x mark, however, is not a OneDrive badge but an indicator of a corrupted shortcut icon.

    Anyway, it might be best to get a screenshots of these badges you're seeing on those icons so we can identify it a lot better.

    The green check mark is just part of the icon for "Default Programs".
