  1. Why do startup scripts execute differently based on how the system is started?


    I am running Windows 10 Home Edition 22H2. I have a script in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp that enables a function in an active service. The script is in this location so its not associated with any specific user and it executes before I log in to the system if the system is started manually via Start->Power->Restart. I can monitor the system remotely via a browser and can see that the functions enabled by the script are up and running. If I then log in to the system and run shutdown /r either from the command line or as a scheduled task, the same script i

    script running on Startup and Shutdown of System is not working

    Steps

    • Open a run box
    • type in "gpedit.msc"
    • Expand Computer Configuration
    • Expand Windows Settings
    • Select Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)
    • Double click Startup
    • Click Show Files and copy/paste your file in to this folder
    • Click the Add button on the startup properties
    • Click Browse and double click on your script to choose it.
    • "OK" out of all windows to apply the new settings.
    I am generally Giving Path of My python to the startup and shutdown as steps given above

    You don't want a script, you want to execute a single command on startup. Startup is exactly for that. You can simply add arguments to your shortcut.
