  1. Why do the Windows system logs say a restart is required after they already say the update...

I'm running into the situation where the Windows system logs are reporting that an update require a reboot, but the prior event says installation was successful. People are complaining that I tell them then need to restart the servers, but when the log in there is no notice to that effect.

Is the reboot required to make the update take effect? What if no one ever reboots the server?

I've posted a portion of the Windows system event log for update KB4535680 that highlights this.

    Thanks

Windows 10 update constantly says requires restart

    Version 1803 for x64 based Systems (KB4103721)

Always says requires restart I have restarted my computer numerous times still says same thing.

Only options to turn off computer is update and restart or update and shutdown.

I have used the Update and shutdown option numerous times and it still says requires restart

Will automatically shut down and start updating

WIndows update assistant says "Thank You for updating to latest version of Windows"

Need to fix this problem ASAP

Why do the Windows system logs say a restart is required after they already say the update...

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Why do the Windows system logs say a restart is required after they already say the update... :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
