Windows 10: why do we now have to restart to update com port numbers

Previously I have been able to update com port numbers in device manager, double click the port, port settings, advanced, change the com port number dismiss all the warnings and save. recently i have had to restart for this to work which is a real pain as it nearly puts me back to the point where I have to change comport numbers again. This is windows 10 in case you had any doubts. It is a real backward step.Peter

localhost itself is OK but adding any port fails

Which suggests you should specify correct port? I'm unable to connect the dots between your ISS server and flashback program, what does one have to do with the other?

 

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
