Windows 10: Why do we put up with such bad service

Discus and support Why do we put up with such bad service in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Pro seems more of a gimmick to suck up more money, Home and pro should just be merged. I also hear from many people that use Pro in home environment on... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Support' started by JohnGroom, Sep 7, 2016.

Lots of people, didn't have to pay a dime for there Windows Pro Mike. *Smile Most of my computers were running Windows 7 Ultimate, so my Windows Pro was Free. I only had to buy 1 Pro license, and I got that for a really good price.

Yes, that's how I ended up with Pro but W7 had larger spread of capabilities between Ultimate and home. I don't know how it is managed in other countries but here any registered business has to use Pro version and inspectors (from tax department/ministry) do not allow Home version to be used in commercial environment. MS has regional office here and they must have some influence on government, they check only on MS products and don't care about other products.
During upheaval in 2000 -2005, MS was giving free windows and Office to opposition parties that are in government now.

It really isn't. If you need to join a domain you need Pro. If you want (as a home user like me) to use Hyper-V or Bitlocker then you may be willing to pay the extra. I was and so I did. You may even just like seeing the word "Pro" and if that makes you happy there is nothing wrong with that.

One thing I really miss in Pro is data deduplication. If that was made a chargeable option I'd gladly pay for it - if I was in charge I'd put dedup in Pro, move Bitlocker to Home and increase the price differential...

I'm always confused when someone starts off a rant against Windows with a list of their technical experience, and then proceeds to spout out complaints showing they don't understand how the tech industry works or a general understanding of how a Windows OS needs to run on an infinite number of hardware configurations with an infinite number of software packages installed. It's that simple understanding that leads you to see how embarrassing it is for Apple to have any issues at all.

PS> Given the example of the account password, a user is prompted as to what they are agreeing to and what will change. I would expect someone who isn't tech savvy at all to get confused about that, but not someone who works in the IT field.

Well put, I find that it's amazing that supposed tech people don't understand that a modern day OS is complex and the testing process is daunting. Having been a programmer for many years I think that I have a good understanding of the software life cycle and it should give me a solid understanding of the OS development life cycle as well.

Personally, I find it amazing that MS does as well as it does with Windows and with the insider program it helps them find more bugs than ever before.

My 2c.. Keep calm and code on. *Wink

It basically boils down to the Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

    Because we have no choice.

Microsoft has long wanted us to pay a subscription for software rather than just buy it. As far back as I can remember, this has been a goal of the company. Windows 10 is an aggressive move in that direction. Microsoft has cleverly mixed up security, performance and new features and bundled them all under the term "updates". They have even stopped telling us what most of them are, so that our fears take over and we think they are all essential. They are trying to create an impression that we must have these updates. Once that's firmly stuck in our heads, of course, they will start to charge for them. And it's working. You speak to most "professionals" and they seem utterly convinced that the world will stop rotating if we don't have the updates. Personally, I have disabled updates now. I am sick and tired of Microsoft trying to force me accept things I don't want. Certainly when their subscription service starts, I will not be using it.

There's a change log for every update and detailed changes for every KB.
Subscription service is not the same thing as "Windows as a service" as many interpret it and is never going to work until whole world can make payments instantly and electronically which is in the very far future if not never. Even if it was like that for privileged few, it's may not be a bad thing. You can compare it to paying regular bills or a bank loan, why would that be any different ? Get bill, pay bill or get cut off for particular service.
