  2. Troubleshooting Android 6 screencast to Windows 10

If the Connect app isn't working, try another one. Here is a site with a few suggestions; it also has app descriptions and step-by-step instructions for installation and use. The downloads are also linked on the site.

Phone Link not coming to front of Windows desktop

    Hi Jen,

First, I feel I should reiterate that the issue is not that Phone Link is getting the messages. It's that I now have to go through the added steps of opening the Phone Link windows and selecting the topmost sender in order to see the message!

Following your suggestion, I went to the link that you provided. The instructions say:

    On your PC:

    1. Open the Phone Link and select Notifications.

    2. Select Get started.

    3. After being prompted to allow Android permissions, select Open settings for me. This will open

a list of apps on your Android device.

So, I opened Phone Link. If I click on the word "Notifications," it does nothing. "Notifications" is simply a heading for that section of the Phone Link screen. So, I obviously can't proceed to step 2 because there is no "Get started." I suspected that these instructions might be for initially setting up Phone Link. In fact, it clearly says near the top of the instructions that they are for "setting up notifications for the first time." So, what I did instead was remove my phone from Phone Link and reinstalled it. This gave me the aforementioned "Get started."

It behaves exactly the same. When a text message arrives on my phone, I get a notification in the bottom-right corner on my laptop. I then proceed to click on that notification. This causes the Phone Link icon in my taskbar to blink with an orange color, I presume to let me know that Phone Link has received this message. Woohoo, big deal! Now, I have to click on the Phone Link icon in the taskbar to bring Phone Link to the front of my desktop. Then, I have to click on the topmost message sender to see the message. It's a real pain in the butt to have to go through these extra steps.

On my old laptop Phone Link behaved quite differently. Once a notification appeared in the bottom-right corner of my laptop, I would click on it and Phone Link would automatically come to the front of the desktop AND display that most recent text message sent to my phone. Can I ask, isn't that how Phone Link works for you?

Most text messages I can ignore, so none of the above matters in those cases. However, I often get text messages sent to my phone that include a verification code that I must enter somewhere on my laptop. On my old laptop, it was so convenient to have the message pop up on top of my desktop. I could then double-click the verification code, right click to copy it and then paste it wherever it was required. It just confounds me that Phone Link works in such a backwards fashion on my new laptop. I've searched in all kinds of settings to try and find a way to make Phone Link automatically come to the top of the Windows desktop.

What's even more confounding is that I can't find anything about this problem when searching the internet. There are all kinds of troubleshooting, but I've not even found a single instance of another user expressing the same problem that I'm describing. It's as if I'm the only one. It's impossible to find help through an internet search when no one else ever posted having this particular issue. It's as if the problem shouldn't even exist. LOL

    Any further suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John
