Why does Java not update when I click the notification that an update is available

In Windows 10, and now in Windows 11, I occassionally get a notification that there is a Java update available. For any other software on my laptop, if I get this type of notification, I click that message and the installation of the update begins. But, with Java, I click the message and nothing happens. Is this normal for Java? Or is there a setting I'm missing? Or, am I even asking the right question? :- I'd like for the action of clicking the notification to at least begin the install process by getting me to the web site to download the update, at the very least. Thanks!

    :)

    Java updates?

I got a notification on my system at boot up this morning wanting me to install a java update.

IIRC, in Win 7 it was suggested that java should not be run at all.

Is java on Win 10 safe and should I allow updates to Java?

  3. Java Update Notification

I didn't go to the Java website because the notification said that an update is ready to install. Updates are downloaded first, then installed, so the notice tells me that the update has already been downloaded. I found the Java Control Panel in the
list of programs on my computer and it told me that Java checks for updates on Tuesday and will notify me of an available update before downloading. That is not clear. It could mean that it notifies me then downloads it, or it could mean it notifies me and
waits for me to download it manually. Since the notification says it is ready to install it must me downloaded, but I don't see a way to install it. It also tells me it last checked for updates on 10-19, which is a Friday, so there is another mystery. There
is an "update now" button on the page not an "install now" button. Out of frustration, I clicked the button and there were progress bars that showed the update was downloaded for a few minutes, then installed. Then I was prompted to uninstall the earlier
version so I allowed that to be done. So, I may have another copy of this update on my computer which has not been installed. I don't know how to determine that. I restarted the computer and did other work and after 10 minutes I still did not get the Java
update notification. But the problem, which was that when I "click(ed) here to continue" on that notice, no continuing happened,
has not been solved. Clicking it simply made the notification disappear for a while. This is all needlessly frustrating and time-consuming. Computer programmers seem to be unconcerned with details and getting things right. God help us when
computers start driving cars. Since the messages are still out of order, this is message 7.
