Windows 10: Why does making a password reset disc require you to know the forgotten password? It makes...

So, my grandpa reset his computer’s password today, and immediately forgot it. It is the LOCAL password for the computer itself, has nothing at all to do with any Microsoft accounts. He doesn’t have a windows 10 install disc, and I don’t know what’s so hard for Microsoft to understand this, but there is no way to create a password reset disc when you’ve forgotten your password. Remembering your previous password is part of the process for some unfathomable reason. Yes, it is telling me that I can’t create a password reset disc for his local account without remembering the password he forgot. No, not the password before it, it’s asks for the current password.

I can’t get on the command prompt, that requires the password. I can’t start the computer in safe mode + command prompt, also requires password. I can’t even view the users on the network because I CAN’T OPEN ANYTHING ON HIS COMPUTER. It. Requires. The. Password. To. Make. A. Password. Reset.

If I get on my computer to try it, his account is not on there. And it’s also not on the local network. AND, even if it were, I would have to know the flipping password to access it. As it tells me.

So, anyone have any actual way that I can ACTUALLY reset his local user computer password (not a Microsoft account)?

You know, a way that doesn’t require me to enter the password that we’re trying to reset, because we don’t know it? Which includes when trying to make a password reset disc

was trying to find out how to make a "password reset disc" as my grandson has forgotten his. The answer given implied the person
should have made a password reset disc. It read:

I tried following the link but it didn't work and a note popped up in the lower right corner of my desk top that said a copy of the file had been saved on "Drive K" which I don't have on this Desktop computer. I don't know how to make a password disc, what
kind of Disc I should use or what device you need to know about. All I have is this computer. If I

asked the question incorrectly or in the wrong place, please tell me where I should ask for help because I'm afraid my teenage grandson is going to forget his password again. He only had the one he lost for 3 days and he doesn't have a MS account. He gave
me an Outlook email address (maybe he wrote it down wrong or didn't want me to have it but the password doesn't work on that either....I don't really know) and before I follow the "link" again I wanted to know how to make a reset p/w disc, just in case......any

No idea what's wrong with your password, but you can 'reset' it by invoking the forgotten password form.

Make sure your email address is correct or working before attempting the following:
It'll give you a temp password, but you have to wait for the server to email you the generated key.
