Windows 10: Why does me disk usage spike to 100% when playing games

Just recently when playing games on my pc control panel will show my disk usage at 100% and the games with stutter a bit. This recently started happening
I checked my HDD health with Crystal Disk Info and it says it's good. Anyone else experiencing this issue I could really use some help

Hello, I recently upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge to Windows 10. After doing so I noticed that the response time for anything was super slow. When I checked task manager my Disk Usage was hitting 100% how do I fix this? It would hit 100% by opening up
any program as well as the initial startup. I disabled superfetch already.

If you have any 3rd party antivirus or malware tool remove them using the Programs and features tool, while you are there browse through the list and see if there are any other applications that you don't use and remove those as well

Use Task Manager > More Details to see what tasks have large disk workloads in the Processes tab, check the Startup tab to see what loads during power up that could be disabled.

The upgrade option does leave a bit to be desired but does work for most people but Microsoft pushes upgrades through (Windows 10 is now a Recommended update instead of optional) ignoring the fact that many systems are unsupported for upgrade.

Go to Start > Settings > Update and Security > Activation. Check the Product Key shows "Windows 10 on this device is activated with a digital entitlement". If this is the case then you have the option of downloading Windows 10 Media

and doing a clean install but this would require that you back up all your files and make sure you have all drivers and application software to re-install from Lenovo

 

Have you actually tried monitoring with task manger while a game is running?

 

There can be a correlation between the amount of RAM that is installed and whether the game or Windows is accessing the Virtual Memory/paging file on the drive. More of each can be quite beneficial in such cases.

 

I disabled superfetch and Xbox game dvr that seemed to help stop the problems on most games . But I still get high disk usage in fallout 4. I have 8gb ram and a GTX 1060 3gb and a Core I5 4570 3.2ghz
