Windows 10: Why does Microsoft account show my laptop device details and not the bitlocker recovery key?

Firmware was updated on hp laptop now after turning it on it shows bitlocker recovery key. For this, I need to access its Bitlocker recovery key. However, although I know the login for the Microsoft account associated with the PC, no recovery keys are shown when I go to aka.ms/myrecoverykey. The PC is shown as a connected device for the account the serial number shown matches the one on my computer, so I seem to have the right account, but there is no recovery key shown.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Incorrect Bitlocker recovery key in my Microsoft account

Thank you so much for your response.

My issue is - in my Microsoft profile, under All Devices -

I do see correct device (only 1 record) - DESKTOP-MCJ**** with correct details like Inspirion.

When I click on the Manage recovery keys under "Bitlocker" on this page,

it shows, only 1 device as per below -

Device Name - DESKTOP-G72*****

So, the recovery key on this page - BitLocker recovery keys - does not work on my Dell Inspirion Laptop.

I will check with Microsoft Learn as you suggested. Meanwhile if you have any other suggestions, kindly advice.

Bitlocker Recovery Key

No, no other accounts.

What puzzles me is why the Bitlocker recovery key is not listed on the microsoft account, but there is a recovery key listed there for a computer I do not recognise.

I have several laptops but only the HP Envy has had Bitlocker on it. So what key is this on my account? And why isn't the Envy key there?

 

Bitlocker Recovery Key

My HP Envy underwent some updates when I shut it down last night. These completed normally.

This morning when I turned it on it is asking for a Bitlocker Recovery key. I was not aware that this laptop even had bitlocker activiated, but clearly it has.

I do not know what the recovery key is, I have not copied it to a USB stick or written it on a piece of paper. Why would I? I didn't even know bitlocker was activated.

I visited my microsoft account and found that the HP is listed in the 'Devices' section with the correct identifier and there is a link to 'Bitlocker details'. However, when I click this the bitlocker key and key identifier listed there do not match the key identifier that the laptop is asking for. And entering this key just gets me "this is incorrect".

How come the wrong key is listed there?

How can I get the correct key?

Is there anyway to get round this without losing all my data?
