Windows 10: Why does Microsoft want me to update EVERY time I shut down?

Each time I go to shut down my laptop, the options to "Update and shut down" or "Update and Restart" are my only options. I've run windows update numerous times. It tells me updates are needed, but never retrieves the needed updates. I ran the "Microsoft Safety Scanner" quick scan twice. The first time it showed it had found/removed 1 questionable file and removed it. I ran it a second time, and while it was running, it found 3 files. But when it was done, it didn't report any.Does anyone have any idea what's going on, or what I can do? Thanks in advance.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

To assist you better, I would like to ask what are the methods that you have tried to solve the issue.

The issue might occur if the computer is not shut down properly. so, I suggest you to perform a power drain by follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• Shut down the Computer.
• Remove all power source (including battery if it is a laptop).
• Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
• Connect the power source and start the computer.
• After the computer boots to the desktop, suggest you to install all the pending updates.
