Why does my computer keep saying based on IP address I'm signed on from my current device located in Redding CA and I'm not, I'm on the Central Coast CA? I also keep getting advice for a device running Windows 10 and I bought my device 8 months ago with Windows 11 in S mode not 10. It has been identified as a Dell 2in1 laptop and it's a HP laptop. I've factory reset it installed windows 11 all over again. I set the default location. I believe I've done everything I can think of. However, even when I'm signed into my accounts such as checking my yahoo mail account and checked for devices curre

  2. Finding IP address

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to find printer’s IP address:

    1. Type Devices and Printers in the Windows search bar.
    2. Select on the printer and click on
      Manage.
    3. Click on the Ports tab.
You will be able to find printer’s IP address under the ‘Ports’ tab.

Few printers also have a “Test print” option on the printer. When you print a test page from network printer, the page shows the IP address along with other details.

Note: If it is set on DHCP mode the IP address will constantly change.
The IP address is assigned automatically by your router using a protocol called DHCP.

    Hope it helps.

    IP ADDRESS

This problem usually sorts itself out automatically, but see the following for some suggestions:

    https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/ip-address-already-in-use/

If you keep getting these notifications, chances are that some device on your network is configured to use a static IP address that is within the range of addresses allocated by your router's DHCP server.

If you need some help in sorting out a situation like this, please provide the following information:

    • the make and specific model of your router
    • the make and specific model of every device connected to your network, including printers, TV set top boxes, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, etc.
If you have many devices connected to your network, download and run Advanced IP scanner (Advanced IP Scanner - Download Free Network Scanner). This will list all of your currently-connected
network devices and show their IP addresses.

Two computers on network with same IP address

    Hi Bob,

You might be getting this error because more than one computer is using the same IP address, which is resulting in a conflict. If you are setting IP addresses manually using static IP addresses, it is important to check that each
network device has a unique IP address.

If your router automatically assigns IP addresses using DHCP, you can try releasing and renewing your computer's IP assignment by following the steps below:

    • Click Start.
    • Type cmd in the search box, and then press Enter.
    • At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order:
      • Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
      • Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

We also recommend that you check your router settings for any conflicts in the DHCP settings. Additionally, check the manufacturer's website or support page for an updated driver for your router.

Update us with the outcome and if you need further assistance.
