Windows 10: Why does my computer think my printer is ON, when it is really OFF?

I am using a Lenovo Laptop running on Windows 10 that is connected to two printers, a Brother printer and an HP printer. The print dialog box indicates the correct status of the Brother printer whether it is "Ready" or "Offline". However, the HP printer is always shown as being "Ready", even when it is turned off. It is an HP Officejet Pro 8600 All-in-One printer. It also incorrectly indicates it is "Ready" to fax, when it is turned off and clearly NOT ready to fax.I couldn't find anyone that has posted on this specific question, but did find posts for the situation where a computer "thinks"

To be sure that you followed my suggestion correctly, I will specify some steps:
CP>devices and printers>add a printer>the printer that I want isn't listed>add a local printer with manual settings>define port>Windows update and install

What and all steps have you tried so far?

Restart the computer and check.

Also, check for Windows updates.

I suggest you to run the Printer Troubleshooter and check if it helps.

  Then click on Printer to run the troubleshooter. Follow onscreen steps.
