Why does my current desktop get copied to a new desktop in Task View?

I am using Windows 11.I am trying to use Task View in the Taskbar to create a new desktop. However, every time I create a new desktop it doesn't start as a clean desktop - it includes all the icons and folders from the original desktop.I have tried to delete the icons and folders on the new desktop "Desktop 2", however when I do so they also are deleted from Desktop 1.I haven't knowingly touched any settings that would cause this behaviour.Interestingly, I have the same issue on my desktop PC as well as my Surface Pro 8.Any assistance would be appreciated.

    :)

  2. no "+ New Desktop" link after clicking Task View

After clicking Task View I do not see a "+ New Desktop" link. Windows Key + Cntl + D will not create a new desktop either. If I have several apps running I will see the screens after clicking Task View but no "+ New Desktop".

  3. Windows 10-Task View - "New Desktop" icon missing

Right-click Taskbar and enable "Show Task View button". This shows the
    Task View
    icon in the taskbar.

As for "New Desktop" icon missing in the Task View screen, this happens if you're in Tablet mode. Task View Window "New Desktop"
    Button Missing in Windows 10
    .

To turn off Tablet mode, click the Action Center icon in the Notification area and turn off the
    Tablet mode toggle switch.

Why does my current desktop get copied to a new desktop in Task View?

The "Add a Desktop" button is no longer appearing in Task View in Windows 10

Thank you very much for the fast response. I made sure that all updates were installed and put the computer into clean-boot state. The Task View continues to not offer the possibility to add desktops. I also checked that WK+ctl+d does not open a new desktop.

I am not receiving any error messages. The computer is being operated on a Microsoft account.

Suggestion as to next steps most appreciated!
