Windows 10: Why does my ethernet link speed randomly cap at 10?

So, I have fiber internet, which is a 500mbps package, that usually hovers more around 650.I have a flat CAT8 cable, plugged into the ethernet ports of the router.I have tried changing the speed & duplex setting to both 1gbps and 100mbps full duplex; neither worked.I sometimes turn on my PC and get a full 500+ mbps, but sometimes it only goes up to 10 or 100.Sometimes restarting my PC fixes it, sometimes it doesn't, though I think that may just be coincidence.I have checked every setting and driver on my PC that I can think of. Ethernet Link Speed at 10 Mbps

Hello, I have been having some slow ethernet. I went through the settings and in the properties for mt connection it says the link speed (transmit/receive) is at 10/10 Mbps. When I try wifi its capped at 520 Mbps but its very unstable most of the time, so I want to use ethernet. Here is some information about my situation:

• Using a Cat.6 Cable
  
• Tried reinstalling ethernet drivers
  
• I tried resetting the network through the settings
  
• I tried all of the steps on this page Fix Ethernet connection problems in Windows - Microsoft Support
  

I would really appreciate additional ideas on how to fix this problem.

Ethernet speed capped at 100 Mbps

I have a Lenovo Legion T5 28IMB05, and my Ethernet connection is capped at 100 Mbps.

Things I have already tried and didn't work:

• Switch to another cable. Originally, I had a CAT5e and as my speed was capped, I bought a CAT6. It didn't help (though I'm still using it)
  
• Force the driver to use 1000 Mbps full duplex
  
• Try my cable and router with another PC. It works
  
• Try to boot from a live USB running Ubuntu 21.10. It also didn't reach full speed
  

The funny thing is that if a plug a USB Ethernet adapter (TP-link UE330), it reaches gigabit speeds with that cable and router; and then if I reconnect the cable to the Ethernet port on my PC, IT WORKS at gigabit speeds for as long as I have the PC turned on. When I restart, it goes back to 100 Mbps.

As of course, I prefer not to have to depend on a USB dongle to reach full speed on my network, what can I do?

 

Ethernet speed limited to 10mbps

Hi, I have an issue with limited speed of Ethernet connection.

My setup:
1. Modem in the basement
2. Router on the first floor

3. PC with MSI PRO Z-690-A motherboard (Win10 Pro)

3. LAN Cable category: CAT 5E

My speed checked via speedtest should be ~ 1Gbps / 500 Mbps, but when I connect my PC to router it is capped at 10/10 Mbps

But if I add switch between router and PC then Link speed is not capped

What I have checked so far: (I will update this list with all suggestions and outcomes)
1. Cable - is ok, cable tester says so as well as connecting another PC with same cable.
2. Router is ok, another PC is connected directly to the same router and there is no issue with speed limit.

3. Drivers - reinstalled - Link speed still capped.

4. Ethernet configuration - completely removed and configured again - Link speed still capped.

5. Speed & Duplex is set to Auto Negotiation, but I also checked with 1Gpbs and 2,5 Gbps - Link speed still capped.

6. Green Ethernet (ARP Offload) is Enabled - after disabling it link speed is still capped.

7. BIOS updated to newest version - Link speed still capped.

8. Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V drivers updated - Link speed still capped.

9. Updated all motherboard related drivers to the nevest version - Link speed still capped.

10. Reinstalled widows (without removing data) - Link speed still capped.

11. Changed cables to CAT 6a - Link speed still capped.

12. Resetting BIOS configuration - Link speed still capped.

13. In contact with MSI support - so far no solution, I have requested contact with MS to send them motherboard for warranty repair.

any idea what else could be done?
