Windows 10: why does my ethernet turn off when in sleep and turned off im trying to get wol to work

so i have already tried turning off power savers and configured everything in bios for it to work but it just doesnt work

Windows turns off network adapter (WOL not working)

Hi,

I'm having an issue with the network adaptor on my motherboard.

As far as I can tell, I should have everything setup properly for WOL to function.

• When the machine goes into sleep mode, WOL works fine.
  
• If I turn off the PC by holding down the power off button, WOL works.
  
• If I turn off the PC by clicking shutdown, I can watch the lights on the switch port the PC is connected to, and see that the network adaptor gets turned off as the lights go out, and WOL does not work.
  
  • Once the machine is off, if I unplug the power, give it a few seconds and reconnect it, the network lights turn on again and WOL works.
    

From this I am to assume that there is a setting in windows somewhere that is causing it to turn off the network adaptor during shutdown but I don't seem to be able to find a setting like that anywhere.

Is anybody able to help with this?

Ethernet disconnected when pc is in sleep mode

hello, im on LAN and im trying to use the wol feature in mikrotik, but first when I try to ping my pc(turned off) from my laptop its not answering, it only answer when my pc is turned on

things I have tried:

1. Updating my driver

2. Checked allow the computer to turn off this device, Allow this device to wake the computer and Only allow a magic packet to wake this computer

3. switched the wake on magic packet value to enable

4. set all the Power and sleep settings to never

5. set the energy efficient ethernet and power saving mode to disabled

I have tried unchecking the allow the computer to turn off this device but the other two options which I needed for wol is greyed

 

Laptop wakes up Desktop from sleep when I turn it on (suspect WOL).

Both my laptop and PC run Windows 10 1909 (build 18363.720) currently but I've had this issue for over a year that I've noticed, I'm finally annoyed enough by it to ask for help. Searching online seems to yield a lot of duff results.

I know what happens at any rate, I'd just like to know why and if I can stop it without turning off WOL: My desktop will be in sleep mode (not hibernate). When I turn on the laptop from being shut down, or wake it from sleep the desktop will wake up from sleep as well. I have several computers on the network but only these two are running Windows 10 (the others are either Linux or Mac) - All my computers support Wake on LAN, but only the laptop wakes the other Win10 computer, nothing else. This does not work vice versa - ie the desktop won't wake up the laptop if it is sleeping, though I suspect that is because my laptop is connected wirelessly to my router where as the desktop is connected via ethernet.

I guess it's setting related to WOL on the laptop or the desktop (or both) causing the problem - I am assuming that when the laptop is turned on or woken from sleep it scans the network and "sees" the sleeping network connection for my desktop and sends some kind of data packet to it. Obviously the desktop sees it as a WOL request and wakes up.

Ultimately I either want to stop the laptop from doing this or get the desktop to ignore the requests, however, I cannot turn WOL off completely on the desktop at least as I do use it often to wake the computer myself so I can access files and such.
