Why does my IEEE 1394 Host Controller appear in my device manager but not what I plug into...

I have an IEEE 1394 pcie card in my desktop, it appears perfectly in the device manager, but when I plug in my audio interface m-audio Firewire solo it doesn't appear anywhere. So when I try to install the drivers,it obviously doesn't work. Thanks.

  2. Unable to install IEEE 1394 legacy driver on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Have you recently made any changes on the device prior to this issue?
    3. Which version of Windows Operating system is running on your device?
    4. Is your computer connected to domain network?

This issue might be occurring possibly due to below mentioned reasons.

    1. It seems like you do not have the IEEE 1394 Host Controller plugged in properly, otherwise Windows would be able to detect it (and show "Unknown Device").
    2. Windows installed the wrong driver, thus it is appearing in a different name thus you can't use it.

What I would suggest is, download the IEEE 1394 Host Controller device from the manufacturer's website, and run the Setup file there. It should replace the wrongly installed driver.

  3. 1394 Host controller missing from device manager

It sounds like your 1394 OHCI Host Controller is not recognized by Windows 11. Here are some more possible solutions:

Try to enable 1394 in the BIOS. To do this, you need to reboot your PC and enter the BIOS setup menu. Depending on your PC model, you may need to press a certain key (such as F2, F10, or Del) to access the BIOS. Then, look for an option related to 1394, Firewire, or IEEE 1394 and make sure it is enabled. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Then, check if the device manager can detect the host controller. Back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.

Try to use the Add Hardware Wizard to manually add the host controller: FireWire port-based device does not work correctly in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 - Microsoft Support. The steps should also work in Windows 11.

By the way, make sure you have the suitable cable, as Sony suggests: Where to obtain an i.LINK (IEEE 1394) cable to connect a digital device to a computer. | Sony USA

If none of the above methods work, you may need to contact Sony support for further assistance. They may have some specific drivers or firmware updates for your PC or device that can resolve the issue: Contact Us - Electronics Product Support | Sony USA

Why does my IEEE 1394 Host Controller appear in my device manager but not what I plug into...

Is Firewire IEEE 1394 still supported by Windows 10 ?

My old Sony DCR-TRV460 camcorder worked when connecting a Firewire (ieee 1394) cable onto my old HP Pavilion media center M8417C computer, which has a 6-pin 1394 port (probably 1394A) at the front and at the back of the computer and Win10 has built-in Firewire drivers for them.

btw, the IEEE 1394 chipset used on the HP computer is "LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" listed in Device Manager

be sure to buy the proper IEEE 1394 cable and the PCI/PCIe 1394 expansion card for PCs/boards that don't have a 1394 connector & ports.
