Windows 10: Why does my keyboard type a single letter/number or even the back space only deleting a...

I only really noticed this during a game I play called Warthunder. When I clicked a or d to bank the plane left or right, it would only do it for a millisecond and then stop. I thought it was weird as it just started doing it today. I then tested it on typing into google and it still happened. I've seen things to say turn off filter keys and still doesn't work.

I understand you are having trouble with your keyboard which types numbers instead of letters. Let me help you with this.

I understand that you have tried the num lock key and it's the same outcome.

Have you tried to press Fn key + Num lock? If not, try it and see if it will fix the concern.

If still it will not fix the issue, follow this steps:

1.Press Windows Key + R then type osk and hit Enter to open On-Screen Keyboard.

2.Turn off Num Lock by clicking on it (If it is ON it will be shown in different color).

3.If you can’t see the Num lock then click on Options.

4.Checkmark “Turn on numeric key pad” and click OK.

5.This will enable the NumLock option and you could easily turn it off.

6.Reboot your PC to save changes.

Lastly, sometimes 3rd party software can conflict with Hardware such as Keyboard and can cause this issue. In order to Fix Keyboard Typing Numbers Instead of Letters issue, you need to perform a clean boot on your PC .

1. Press windows key + R, then type msconfig.

2. Select In General tab, select Selective Start up, put a check mark on load system services and unchecked "Load start up items".

keyboard typing numbers before letter

Hi. My daughter has an acer aspire E 15 start. When she types h, the number 8 appears before it and sometimes when she types the letter d, it deletes previous letters, also happens when the types other letters(numbers appear before) it. And when pressing
shift, brackets don't work properly

Please can someone help us out

To assist you better I would like to know whether you tried the same using different keyboard. We will help you to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices
troubleshooter and check if it helps..

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click on Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver

Steps to uninstall and reinstall driver.

• Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Device Manager”.
• In the list of devices, you should see the keyboard drivers.
• Right click on the device and then select "Uninstall".
• In the uninstall dialog, make sure you select the option to delete the driver package from the system. This causes the driver package installed earlier to be deleted.
• In the Action menu of Device manager, select “Scan for Hardware changes”
  option. This will cause the device driver to be reinstalled. Once the driver is installed, close all windows and restart the computer.
