Windows 10: Why does my laptop's audio become distorted for a second while watching videos and playing...

I noticed this first while playing video game on my laptop. Whenever there are a lot of activities happening on the screen, the audio distorts for a second. The video does not get affected by it; and there are no video spikes and no lags. Just the audio distorting for a second. When I then watch a video, I sometimes still hear that audio distortion after an hour. There are also no lags and no spikes on the video. Distorted Sound

Hi Zaki,

Distorted sound can be be produces if there is an issue with the hardware or software. Please answer the following questions for us to narrow down this concern:

• Is it affecting all music, videos, and online videos?
• Which sound card is set to default? Realtek High Definition Audio or High Definition Audio Device? You will know it by typing
  "sound" on the search box and select Sound, under Playback, the default speaker should have a check.

Please run Playing Audio Troubleshooter by following these steps:

• Type "troubleshooting" on the search box.
• Select Troubleshooting on the result.
• Click View all.
• Choose Playing Audio and follow the steps.

sound distortion when playing video or audio

it's an HP laptop, approximately 2. 5 months old.

HP Notebook 15-ac170ne i7-6500U

8 GB ram

2 Terabyte hard drive

intel Core i7.

Again operating on windows ten.

Just started noticing the distortion in the last few weeks. might have been there before, but perhaps I wasn't paying much attention. it seems to come and go. I checked if Ram and CPU were being used up and hence the distortions which seem to be short pauses
in playback or streaming, but Ram and CPU are both not being used up while playing video or music. the distortion or pause happens with both headphones or with speakers and has nothing to do with the actual microphones, but actual pauses in streaming or playback
which manifest in slight distortion sound every 30 seconds or so. The only change I made in the last few weeks since noticing this, is changing power setting to 'power savings', which gave me the warning that power savings mode may affect performance. Could
this power scheme be the culprit?

btw, I can alleviate the distortion sound by rebooting, but once the PC is on for a few hours and I open other programs while running music in the background it starts again, even when I close all other programs and only have media player or youtube running.
This is my first troubleshoooting step.

 

Audio Enhancement Disabed but wont play audio or video

All the steps have been tried. I have been dealing with this issue since last week so many of the steps you suggested or sent had been tried already and a few more than once. The PC has been through a soft reset, a factory reset, and I also did your suggestion of the repair reset.

I am still getting the same issue. When the audio enhancement is not on the audio does not play, the test tone audio fails, no local video files can play either. No YouTube videos or any online video plays. Youtube screen will say an audio rendering issue. Local audio files will give error and say it is unsupported coding...0X8000FFFF, when the enhancement is on there is no issue at all

Drivers, Bios, chips etc are up to date. I have had this laptop for less than 2 months, so I did not really have any 3rd party software installed.

Troubleshooter even suggest disabling the enhancement but again...this is the problem.
