Windows 10: Why does my old computer name never really go away?

I have a backup PC that I recently started using to work from home. When I built the computer and installed the OS, I gave my user name a humorous name which is not appropriate for work. I renamed my account, but it seems my old user name still persists. For example, I recently installed Altium, and when it identifies the name of the computer and the user logged in, I get the results seen below. The identified user name is different from what windows says my user name is.





I tried using RegEdit and searched for every instance of the original name in the registry and changed it. Upon reboot, it is all reverted back to the old name. Altium always sees this old name, and it is a problem when I use a license server to connect as it shows the inappropriate name as a connected user for all of my colleagues to see.


Any idea how I can fix this issue? TIA.

Old Owner Name

I bought a used Axim. I changed the Device ID in Settings -> System ->

About. I changed the owner name in Settings -> Personal -> Owner Info.

But when I use Send To on a Windows 7 "desktop", the option for my

Axim lists the old owner's name. Not a major problem, but definitely

annoying. I couldn't find that name in the registry (on the Axim).

Can anyone suggest another place to look?

How to REALLY change computer name in Windows 10?

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows + pause/break.

2. Select system protection on the left pane.

3. Select computer name under system properties.

4. Select To rename this computer or change its domain or workgroup click change.

5. Change the name and follow the instruction.

May be the Software which you are using is taking the default name of the computer.

old email addresses

Here is the step to remove that old email address.

Start typing an email address into the “To” field. As soon as you see the old email address being recommended as one of the potential candidates, use the down arrow key to scroll through the list of suggestions. Once you highlight the old email address, type
the delete key. In many cases, this will actually remove the entry not only from the current list of suggestions but from future suggestions as well. You may even find that as you mouse over the drop-down list the highlighted item will have an “x” to explicitly
allow you to delete it.

Just do this step and your good to go.
