Windows 10: Why does my PC only get 2 bars of wifi when it used to have 3 always and every other device...

Before the summer i bought a ethernet cable that went from my main rogers router, all the way to my upstairs wifi extender, boosting the rogers wifi extenders wifi. I always had super good connection. Now I was away for the summer, and I come back, and now I usually only have 2 bars of wifi. I dont know why but sometimes its 3 bars, but its usually 2. I dont understand how it only has 2 bars when the cable is boosting the wifi extender.

It is possible that your drivers are outdated or the connection itself has the issue. We suggest that you perform
these methods of troubleshooting
and check if there are any changes:

Method 1: Reset TCP/IP

To do this, follow these steps:

• 
  Run
  Command Prompt
  as
  Administrator.
  
• 
  Run
  this command:
  
  • 
    netsh int ip reset
    and hit
    Enter.
    

Exit
Command Prompt
and
monitor your WiFi connection.

Method 2: Disable auto turn-off of WiFi device.

Go to
Network and Sharing Center. At the
right pane, click
Change adapter settings.
Right-click
on your
connection name(WiFi name)
and go to
Properties.Click
the
"Configure..."
button and go to
Power Management
tab.Uncheck/disable
the
radio button
for
"Allow this device to turn off this device to save power". And then,
Restart the PC(Important).

Method 3: Reconfigure TCP/IP

To do this, follow these steps:

• 
  Run
  Command Prompt
  as
  Administrator.
  
• 
  Run
  these following commands:
  
  • 
    netsh int tcp set heuristics
    disabled
    
  • 
    netsh int tcp
    set global autotuninglevel=disabled
    
  • 
    netsh int tcp set global
    rss=enabled

One device much slower than others on home wifi - why?

If the previously mentioned suggestions don't provide sufficient answers, could you possibly temporarily relocate the wifi router closer to the desktop PC?

I've re-read your first post and wanted to ask, do you know if this PC has always been challenged for download speed and has the wifi router always been in its present location? Besides evaluating your wifi performance in different areas it does sound unlikely that this PC would perform so poorly in comparison to others unless it has a problem.

I would advise following the previously mentioned steps to understand how well your wifi signal is being received in different areas and by other devices. And establish if you might have (1) a wifi propagation issue, (2) a wireless card problem or possibly (3) a PC configuration deficiency.

(2) Check the manufacturers site for a driver update for your wireless card.
(3) There are a few items that can be tweaked to provide optimum broadband performance. I'll try to post them sooner than later. Time to make dinner now. *Smile

Is there anything better than this which has maximum Wifi range? For example can it play movie from 30 meter distance ? From other room ?
