  1. Why does my PC “restart” after one minute when signing in

When I sign into my computer I get a blue windows box pop up saying Your computer will restart in one minute but this only happens when I am connected to the internet. I have tried so many attempts to fix such as sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth, Updating drivers, Updating the motherboard BIOS, Using windows troubleshooting options, Performing a system restore, and many other things, however none of them have solved the problem. I don’t have this issue when I start windows in safe mode as in safe mode you aren’t connected to the internet and this problem only happens wh

How to troubleshoot an error that appears only at Restart or Sign out?

I get an error pop-up error message not every, but almost every time I Restart or Sign out. It's the screen with blue background and on top of Restart or Sign out text an error window says:

Explorer.exe - Application error. The instruction at 0x000… referenced memory at 0x000... The memory could not be written.

Sometimes the error code is just zeros, sometimes random numbers. I have tried so much already to troubleshoot this. For example these did not help in any way:
    • MemTest86+ (no problems)
    • Disabling any Services, Autoruns/ShellExView entries
    • Low resolution mode
    • BIOS settings are fine, no overclocking etc.
    • DISM.exe and sfc
    • etc.

However, these do make the error go away:
    • End process for explorer.exe before Restart or Sign out
    • Safe Mode
    • Creating a new user profile (almost the same as clean installing Windows, many full days of work)
    • Uninstalling NVIDIA graphics driver (then the card is unusable, of course)
    • Disabling Device Manager / Display Adapters / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

I already contacted NVIDIA and the graphics driver is not the culprit. Something has gone wrong with the user profile as the same driver works just fine in a new profile (and there's nothing wrong with the driver anyway, it's just the Restart or Sign out process that has a problem).

What can I do to fix this? One useful thing would be to have a step-by-step procedure for the Sign out. So that it'd ask before continuing to the next step and list what it's doing. Or if I could just disable whatever it does when the error appears.

  3. Windows 10 start & restart takes 25 minutes

    Hi Earl,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience caused. To better assist you, do let us know if you see the "power" button in the login screen. If so, I would suggest you to check if you are able to sign in through safe mode by following the steps
    below:

    • Click on the power button.

    • Hold the shift key and click "restart" to enter Windows Recovery Environment.

    • After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select
Troubleshoot > Advanced options >Startup Settings > Restart.

    • After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the Internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
If you are able to sign in through safe mode, I would suggest you to place your computer in clean boot state.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to Perform a Clean Boot? (Applies to Windows 10)

Disclaimer: Once you are done with the troubleshooting, perform the steps in "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" to reset computer as usual.

    Regards.

Why does my PC “restart” after one minute when signing in

Remote desktop causing "Your PC will automatically restart in 1 minute"

I am experiencing this problem as well and it is a MAJOR ISSUE which I don't feel is being given the proper level of response. As best I can tell it has a series of easy reproducible steps.

    • Configure a Windows 10 PC so that it has a blank password and boots directly to the desktop on bootup.
    • Attempt to RDP to the Windows 10 PC with the blank password from another requesting Windows PC.
    • Immediately receive a 1-minute shutdown message on the requesting PC.
    • Observe the requesting PC automatically restart within 1 minute, losing any work that wasn't able to be saved within the 1 minute.
This alarming behavior is almost virus-like and puts any computer at risk of being unexpectedly shutdown by simply requesting a RDP session with a Windows 10 PC using a blank password.
