Windows 10: why does my pc use 8gb of ram when in use

My windows 10 pc is always uses an extra 4 to 8 gb of ram when it is turned on for some reason. for example I am watching youtube right now on operaGX and I am using7.9 gb of ram, whitch is odd because operaGX is using 1.8 gb of ram and when I gointo users I am using 2gb of ram. when I look at all the background tasks I can not see any of them using that much ram. even all of them added up does not add up to 8gb of ram. so I do not know.also my pc spectsi7 12700kfGTX 1050 ti32 gb ram1 tb ssd

Windows shows 8GB RAM installed but 4GB RAM is usable

Hi There,

I've just upgraded my pc from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM. Windows seems to have detected this upgrade but why does it show as only 4GB RAM available. The following is what I have tried so far with no luck:

• I have tried the msconfig method on ensuring maximum memory is not checked.
• physically removed the new RAM and reinstalled it

Any thoughts/suggestions on how i can resolve this matter?

Do I really need 8gb RAM?

RAM Speed is more important when it comes to APU's. 1600mhz is standard, 1866mhz is a decent step up, most of us ignore 1333mhz. Timings are more important than speed to me. Id rather have CL9 1600mhz than CL11 2400mhz

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
