Windows 10: Why does my settings freeze when I click on activation or Product activation troubleshoot?

I recently got attacked by an expiro virus which was spreading fast and I was left with the option of using the advance startup to reset my PC by first deleting my current windows and reinstalling it from the cloud. After I got the new windows, anytime I try to sign in to my microsoft account, a grey window pops up and then dissapears. When I try clicking on Product activation or activation troubleshoot as well, the settings just hangs and freezes.

I just wanted to clarify since those are two separate lists. The device would only show up in the activation troubleshooter if it was linked to the MSA while previously activated.

Are you trying to activate with a separate or same license/product key than the first device?

As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest that you run the Activation troubleshooter and try activating Windows 10 Pro again. To run the Activation troubleshooter, follow these steps:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Update & Security from the list.
• Select Activation in the left pane of the window.
• Click Troubleshoot.

1. Confirm that your device is up to date and running Windows 10, version 1607 or later. In the search box on the taskbar, type winver, and then select Winver from the list of results. You'll see the version and build of Windows.

Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation .

Select Change product key, and then enter the 25-character product key.
