Windows 10: Why does my smart card reader not work on my new laptop with Windows 11 Home?

I recently purchased a new PC laptop and am unable to use my smart card reader SCR3310 v2.0 to access my work accounts. My employer recently transitioned to a more secure virtual desktop for email and I need my smart card reader to access it. I have used the same smart card reader on my macbook pro, but when using it on my new laptop Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5, there is no response from the reader i.e. the green light that shows the reader is attempting to read the card does not light up. I have installed, uninstalled, and re-installed the necessary drivers from the Identiv website, spoken wi

Based on the information you provided, if the card reader and the cable connecting the card reader are normal, it seems like the issue might be related to the certificates on your Windows 11 computer.



Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:



1.Check if the smart card reader is recognized by your computer. You can do this by going to Device Manager and looking for the smart card reader under "Smart card readers". If it's not listed, try connecting it to a different USB port or restarting your computer.

2.Please check if the smart carder driver is up-to-date.



3.If it used to work normally, it seems the certificate in smart carder is expired. Check if the certificates on your computer are up-to-date. You can do this by going to Internet Options > Content > Certificates and checking if the certificates are valid and not expired. If they are expired, you can try renewing them. Or you can check it via certmgr.msc\current user\personal container.



4.If the card reader never worked on this machine, please check if the smart card reader is configured correctly.

WIndows 10 Compatible Smart Card Reader

I've been using an SCR3500 USB smart card reader for military websites for years with Windows 7. I've since found that this particular reader has been deprecated and will not work with my new Windows 10 machine.

Is there anyone out there using a smart card reader with Windows 10? If so, what make and model reader are you using? And yes, I've been to militarycac.com before someone suggests it. The site is offers a lot of suggestions but none of which are fixing
my problem. Any assistance would greatly appreciated.

 

Smart Card Reader suddenly stopped working on Windows 11

I was just using my Identiv SCR3500C Smart Card reader to access secure files for work. Out of nowhere, my CAC reader suddenly stopped working. The issue will state "No Client Certificate presented". Basically it doesn't seem like the smart card reader wants to engage when it should be doing so when accessing secure sites. When I take the Smart Card reader and connect it to my other computer (a Mac) it works with the card no issues. What on earth is wrong and how can I fix this? I tried the following:

- Uninstalled SCR3500C Smart Card reader, then reinstalled after restart

- Deleted certificates from Internet Options - Certificates - Personal
