Windows 10: Why does Photos app in Windows 11 "Change Date" feature stop at 1972?

I have a bunch of old scanned photos with dates as early as the 1880s. Can't change the DateTaken to before 1972 in Windows 11 Photo app. How come the app doesn't support dates before 1972. Is there a work around?

The Photos app brings together pictures from all your devices using OneDrive, so that you can browse them by date, album or folder. It also automatically enhances photos, and creates albums for you, to showcase your best shots.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1:

I suggest you to change the Default apps in the setting app and verify the result. You may follow the steps in the below:

• Go to settings and system.
  
• Click on Default Apps and select the appropriately.
  

Method 2:

I suggest you to reinstall Photo app using the PowerShell command
and reinstall using the Windows store. Follow the below steps.

• Open the　Start　menu, type　Windows PowerShell　in the search bar.
  
• Right click on the　Windows　PowerShell　and select　Run as　administrator.
  
• Enter the below command to uninstall the Photo app.
  

• 　　get-appxpackage　　*Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage

Can't change photo date

What is the file extension for the photos which are facing the issue?



It is possible that the Windows photos app has gone corrupted due to the involvement of third party websites/applications.

You can try to run app troubleshooter and check if that fixes the issue.

Alternatively, you can try the following steps to change the date of the photos:

1. Select the file from the file explorer.
2. Right click on it and click on Properties.
3. In the image properties, click on the Details tab.
4. Look for the section Origin>Date taken and click on the mentioned date.
5. Edit the date accordingly and click on Apply and OK.

Photos app dates

In the windows photo app is there a way to manually change the dates of photos imported? Changing the date settings on devices does not help, all the photos I import are listed with wrong dates by several years. Very frustrating!

I understand that the device I am importing photos from is probably to blame for the incorrect date, what I am looking for is a way to correct this manually from within the app itself.

My photo collection is now chaos and I am forced to keep a mud map on paper of when the photos were actually taken, in the hope of finding a way to correct this here.
