It's an odd problem but one that has bothered me for awhile. When using my headphones I hear an echo or distortion like the sound is coming in an empty auditorium. It occurred for me on multiple Windows 10 machines and with multiple headphones. This bugged me the heck out, to the point where I started switching on and off any sound setting I could find. Behold the solution which eluded me and multiple iterations of this question on Google, turn off Signal Enhancements in Headphone Properties > Advanced settings. Now everything is back to normal. I hope this can help others with the same p

no enhancements tab on my speaker properties HP windows 10

    Hi Manuelde,

Outdated audio driver is one of the usual caused why the enhancements tab is not appearing on the speakers properties. There are also audio drivers that don't have an enhancement tab.

To isolate the root cause of the issue, we need additional information:

    • Which audio driver are you using?
    • Were you able to use the enhancement tab before?
    • Did you make any changes prior to the issue?

As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest uninstalling the driver using the steps below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Right-click (or tap and hold) the name of the device, and select
      Uninstall.
    • Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.

  3. With headphones my audio sounds echo and really bad

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

Appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

I can understand the situation must be difficult for you when the head phone doesn't work as it should.

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue:

    1. What is the make and model of the headphone?
    2. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to this issue?
    3. How is the headphone connected to the PC?
    4. When you say ‘I've reset multiple times’, are you referring to the Sound settings reset or the complete PC reset?

However, let us try these methods and check if that helps.

Method A: Suggest you to try the steps from this article to check if that makes any difference.

Fix sound problems in Windows 10:

Method B: To isolate the issue further, suggest you to follow these steps to check if that helps.

    1. On the Playback tab, select the headphone > right click and select properties > Go to advance tab and change the sample rate and test for the issue.
    2. Uncheck the option ‘Allow applications to take the exclusive control on this device’.
    3. Click on Apply and Ok.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

    Audio Echoes Through Headphones

I have had this issue since I first got the Windows 10 update. My audio will have an echo to it when using headphones. I have solved it before by going into the properties of my audio device and turning off enhancements, but I am no longer to access that.
I can get to the menu, but the enhancements option is not there. Additionally, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and checked for updates on my audio drivers to fix it. Just last week I had to uninstall and reinstall them. However, today the issue returned.
I want to know how to permanently fix this as I'm tired of doing it every couple weeks. Thank you.
