Why does Snipping Tool only cover part of the screen in Windows 11?

Hi, I am using Windows 11 with my laptop screen and one other monitor. When using the Snipping Tool, a gray box appears showing the area I can snip. This only covers part of the screen on the monitor, meaning I can't snip from most of the screen. This issue didn't happen in Windows 10, which allowed me to snip from any part of either screen.

    :)

    Snipping tool not working

I'm trying to use the Snipping Tool (Windows+Shift+S) but when it opens up to let me select which part of the screen to select, it blanks out the entire screen so that there is nothing to select. I'm not sure when this stopped working since I do not use it very often. I'm using:

    • Edition Windows 11 Pro
    • Version 21H2
    • Installed on ‎11/‎6/‎2021
    • OS build 22000.613
    • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.613.0
    • The Snipping Tool shows version 11.2201.12.0
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Please try this:

    Step 1:

Click Start, and type Snipping Tool.

Right-click Snipping Tool from the search results, and click App Settings

    Click Reset,

    Click Repair.

Note: In Windows 11, there is no Snip and Sketch. It comes pre-installed with the new Snipping Tool (which replaces the old Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch apps)

    Step 2:

Turn off Focus assist if it's enabled

    Step 3:

Open Services.msc and make sure that the following services are set to "Automatic" and running:

    • Windows Push Notifications System Service
    • Windows Push Notifications User Service

Windows 11 Snip and Sketch tool doesn't cover the whole screen

I literally had the same problem for months. I just tried the scaling solution and IT WORKED!

    SOLUTION:

It is caused by the different scale level of your monitors. That break the function of Snip and Sketch tool. To get rid of that, you need to reset the scaling you currently have in Windows 11.

    • From your desktop, click or tap on the Windows logo icon on taskbar, search for Settings and click the top result to open the app.
    • Click on the System category, and select the Display tab.
    • Go to its right side pane, under the “Scale & layout” section, use the Scale drop-down menu to configure that. You need to set all display scale to 100%, and make a rebooting to apply changes.
For example, I had configured my main display as 100%, while my secondary display of external monitor was 125%. the scaling is different between the two displays, so I could not use Snip and Sketch tool with the quick key. Once I set both displays to 1920 x 1080 resolution at 100%, everything works normally.
