Why does the Disk Drive max out every morning when I boot up the computer?

Why do Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry and other Microsoft programs hijack and max out the Disk Drive on my Windows 10 computer every morning when I boot up the computer; and is there any way to prevent this?

Disk boot failure after removing old Vista partition

Thank you for the reply, muchomurka! As I indicated in my post, I have already tried all the steps you suggested to no avail:

    - I cannot choose startup repair since the computer does not boot from the installation media
    - I cannot use command prompt since the computer does not boot further than the POST screen
    - I have disconnected and tried out all hard drives individually.

Since I had Win 10 up and running a few hours ago, I can say with 100% certainty that none of the hardware is faulty.

The real mystery is, how come the system won't boot from any media without an empty disk containing an old Vista boot sector being on top of the boot priority list? And which steps to take now that I've cleaned this disk and it does not exist anymore?

Would appreciate any ideas and pointers!

Windows 10 installation. Error: Windows Cannot Be Installed to This Disk. This Computer's Hardware May not Support Booting to This Disk".

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest to try with the below mentioned steps

If you have more than one hard drive connected to your computer, remove the additional hard drives and keep only the primary one.

If it does not work, back up your data, delete all the existing partitions and let installer create the new partitions.

I also suggest to try with changing the hard drive mode in BIOS.

If it is set to IDE, change it to
AHCI, if the current mode is AHCI, change it to
    IDE.

Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

If none of these suggestions work, boot the computer to Windows Recovery environment using the installation media.

    1. Choose Repair your computer on the initial Windows setup screen.
    2. Go to Troubleshoot->Advanced options->Command prompt and execute the following commands one by one.
    3. Diskpart
    4. List Disk
    5. Select disk disk 0 (Note: remove all additional disks).
    6. Create partition primary.
    7. Exit.
Reboot the computer and see if you can proceed with installation.

If you still get the same error, delete the partition, select the unallocated partition and click
    Next to proceed with installation.

    Hope it helps.

How to Partiton a Hard Drive in Vista

This is a way to get Vista to see another hard drive that is not associated with the OS. There is some times when your new hdd doesn't seem to want to work well with Vista. But, there is a solution in it.

Open the Computer Management By doing these steps.
    • Click on the Start Button
    • Click on Control Panel
    • Click Administrative Tools
    • Double click on Computer Management
You are now in the Navigation panel of the Computer Management.
When in Computer Management, you then have to allow the new drive to be recognized.
    • Double click on Storage
    • Double click on Disk Management
Now in the middle of your screen there is the layout of the Disk Drives that you have. The drives that are partitioned will show by the drive lettering. The others will just show up as having nothing at all in them. Below that there will be the Disk drives that are installed into the computer. You'll see that the primary one will all ways read as "Disk 0". Then you will have Disk 1 and so on. Under the Disks there will also see your CD-Rom drives.. If there is more then one, it will be labeled the same as Disk drives..

On to the Partitioning of the drive in question.
    • Right Click on the drive
    • Click to format the drive or Enable Volume. There will be a series of windows that open up. This is Vista's formatting. Just go threw the windows, and make sure everything is the way you want it to happen.
    • Once the formatting is done, will take some time depending on the drive size.
    • Right click on the drive
    • Click on Mark the Partition as Active
After you have done those steps, The drive will be up and running threw Vista.

    :Side Notes:
If you are not the Administer to the Os, then you will have to enable it..
You may also want to redo the drive lettering of it all. But, I really don't see a reason to do so. If you do, you have to redo drive paths and so forth.. A lot of work on something so small...
