Hello, I am experiencing this issue where, as the question suggests, the link speed of my ethernet cable changes to 100mbps from 1gbps when the cable is plugged in. I have a gaming laptop Asus Tuf A15 2023 that supports a 1gbps connection with cat7 ethernet cable. My router provides a 1gbps, so it is frustrating that I could only get around 90mbps. I tried using another laptop with a 1gbps connection to see if the cable or the router was faulty but the laptop ended up getting 900mbps so I knew that the Asus laptop was the problem. Link speed say 100mbps, when it should be saying 1000mbps/1gbps

A few weeks back i got Fiber internet put in. We are paying our ISP for 200mbps. One computer is only getting 50mbps and the link speed in task manager says 100mbps. unlike another PC in my house reading a link speed of 1gbps and is g etting the full 200mbps.

I have tried changing the Speed and Duplex to 1gpbs but the link speed still says 100mbps in task manager. I am still not getting the full 200mbps. I have been testing my speeds with Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test.

If anyone knows how to change the link speed to 1gbps that would be great!

 

Speed stuck at 100Mbps on 1Gb Fibre

PC is custom built

Speed and Duplex were set to Auto Negotiate but Ethernet Speed was stuck at 100Mbps which is why I have forced it to 1Gbps, but the Ethernet Speed remains the same 100Mbps

Please read the original post as stated the PC is connected directly to the Router via Cat8 Cable.

Power Managment is not the issue everything related to saving power is Disabled

I have even restarted my PC in Safe Mode with Networking and as stated before The Speed and Duplex remains set to 1Gbps but the Ethernet Speed is still at 100Mbps

This means it is not an external program throttling my speeds

 

Speed stuck at 100Mbps on 1Gb Fibre

So I have been trying to fix this for the last week....

- I have had 1Gb Fibre installed.

- I installed a TP-Link 2.5 Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter ( TX201 ).

Issue

-The speed on my Ethernet is showing 100.0Mbps.

-Changed Speed and Duplex to 1.0Gbps Full Duplex.

-Speed on Ethernet does NOT change from 100Mbps. (But stays at 1.0Gb within the Duplex settings)

So even though it is set on Speed and Duplex to 1Gbps at the Ethernet Status the Speed is staying at 100Mbps.

Layout
Router -> Cat8 Cable -> 2.5Gb Network Adapter.

I have tried 5 Different Cat8 Cables, I have tested the cables, it is NOT the cables.

Yes I am loosing my mind.

1Gbps Full Duplex / Speed 100 Mbps

- I have an Eero 6E Router, at the router I am getting Download Speed 941.0Mbps / Upload 942.0Mbps.

- At PC I am getting Download Speed 92.6Mbps / Upload 94.5Mbps.

- I have uninstalled and reinstalled Drivers Multiple times.

- I have used multiple different Cat8 Cables and have tested them multiple times.
