Why does the Free Current Windows Scan App from the Microsoft Store for Windows not feature...

I have been using Windows 10 Pro since 2018 and I file monthly medical claims for reimbursement. In 2018, I downloaded the Windows Scan App from the Microsoft Store and it featured JPEG, PNG, TIFF, Bitmap AND PDF which I have been quite happy using all these years. Whenever I scanned my medical claims, clicking on PDF, the document that I was scanning, would appear as having been scanned, when I click on VIEW in Adobe. However, just this week 2/6/2022 thru 2/12/2022, I noticed that I had an error Code show up on my PC and when I researched what this error code meant, I came across a artic

Microsoft is purging a lot of low quality apps from the Windows Store

"Microsoft is sending emails to some Windows Store developers informing them that their apps have been removed from the Store for violating its quality standards."

"Neowin reports that app developers have been receiving these emails over the past couple of days:

In its latest review of the Store, Microsoft is evaluating if the published apps are good enough to be listed in the Windows Store. This includes publicly available apps as well as private beta apps. Additionally, Microsoft is also asking developers to delete any promotional campaigns for their apps to prevent advertising charges. Similarly, app name reservations are also being nullified; which means that if your app is unpublished, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to republish it under the same name.

Officially, the policies for the Microsoft Store says that apps must have "distinct and informative metadata" and "provide a valuable and quality user experience". There are also some specific standards that must be in the apps, including having a name that is not similar to another app or device, along with offering a description that is accurate about its features and functions.

There have certainly been many Windows Store users who have complained over the years about the large number of apps published that are clones of other apps or ones that are simply poorly made. Hopefully, this new move by Microsoft will help to curb these issues, at least for now.

Microsoft Introducing Playable Ads on its Windows Store

Windows store and its Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps have received a lukewarm response from users (to put it mildly). That said, Microsoft has been taking strides so as to lend credibility to its app store and increase awareness towards its apps, looking to garner the public's - and therefore, the developers' - attention. However, it's obvious that there is still a long way to go.

Now, Windows is looking to introduce Playable Ads on the Windows store. These aren't quite like what they sound - they aren't "playable" in the gaming sense of the word. What this is, is a renewed way for Windows users to try out the ads that Microsoft relentlessly pushes on its Windows Store, by allowing users to test apps through the Windows Store interface without having to go through the hassle of downloading them, testing them, being left wanting, and uninstalling them. With Playable Ads, users will be able to try out apps in the Windows Store interface, bypassing the need for downloads.

However, users will only have three minutes to pass judgment on whether the app is what they're looking for or not. After three minutes of testing a Playable Ad, users can then elect to buy the app or not, keeping their progress on the real, downloaded version of it. Users don't have to leave the app they're currently in to try Playable Ads - meaning, it will be essentially an app stream inside the Windows Store - and it's possible to quit the Playable Ad at any point - you're not locked in for the full three minutes.

Microsoft really is pulling all the moves on attracting developers to its platform, though - developers won't have any more trouble or coding to do so as to implement the new features. These are automatically handled by Microsoft itself as part of the development interface for UWP. I am reminded of a sweaty, hyped Steve Balmer chanting "Developers, developers, developers", for some reason.

The feature is still in a limited preview, and no timeline on a wider rollout of the feature has been given, but expect it to arrive sooner rather than later.
