Windows 10: why does the number of emails no longer show up on the mail icon in my task bar?

After 7/28 which I guess was an update the number of emails that I receive does not show up on the email icon on my taskbar. How do I fix that?

What happened to my mail icon on the task bar?

So, I reinstalled Windows 10 and mail icon was
still invisible although it now appeared correctly in the Apps list. I also have it pinned to the Start Menu, and the mail icon was still incorrect there (showing a blank page as the icon).

I unpinned the mail from the task bar, deleted it from the start menu and re-pinned it to the task bar and SUCCESS. Mail icon is visible and shows the correct image.

I still don't see the envelope icon in the system icons folder. Shouldn't it be there?

If the icon is hidden from the task bar, you can enable it by using the following steps. The icon might be hidden. Here's how to show the battery icon:

• Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then click
  Properties.
• Under Notification area, click
  Customize.
• In Notification Area Icons, click on Select
  which icons appear on Taskbar.
• On in the drop-down list next to
  Power, and then click OK.

If the issue still persists you can try Updating the latest Power management driver software for Windows 10 from the manufacturer website.

[SOLVED] Mail & Store show as white square icons in task bar

Yes tried a disk cleanup today, rebooted and still the same. Interestingly now the icons in the start menu for mail and store are no longer white squares, they are blank document type icons. They still show as white squares in the task bar when running
though.
