Windows 10: Why does the same generic microsoft support page open irregardless of which windows help...

Every help link I click opens a generic microsoft support web page. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us)

Even most "Learn More" links open to this page rather than a page with the specific information offered by the clickable link.

Now you have to search again. But first, choose a catagory, choose where to search, then type in search parameters. After returning to Event viewer to verify exact search terms. All this DESPITE having already sent the information to Microsoft.

Is it Laziness? Is it greed? They also advertise products for sale on this page. The links that come to mind that open to this page are event log help (which used to open to a very informative Technet website), Microsoft management console help, windows media player help, etc...

Did they just care more when XP was out. (Everything explained well and right there on your pc) Even Vista opened specific pages depending on which help link was clicked.


Now that I'm done ranting, 1. Why was specific help abandoned? 2. Does anyone have a workaround to actually get to help pages?


I hope it's ok to post this as a question even though it is both a question and a complaint. (I really do need help)

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Default pages for Microsoft Edge

• Open Microsoft Edge.
• Click on the ". . ." at the top right corner. Select Settings.
• Under Open Microsoft Edge with. Select Specific pages.
• Set the webpages and Save.

Windows 10 help page opens every time I boot!


"It isn't in the startup list... or listed as a home page in my browser"

Does it do it in Edge too ? Post screenshot of below area, if this doesn't work -
Check these two areas in "Settings" in Chrome ? It must be listed in "Open a specific ..." or try "Open New Tab page" for a few startups to see if that setting sticks.
