Windows 10: Why does the Troubleshoot button under 'Test your microphone' only test the speaker?

Hi,I can't get my microphone to work. I've tried both using the shared Mic/Speaker jack, and plugging in a speaker separately from the microphone.Troubleshooting the mic is worthless ; the only thing the 'quick scan' does is play a tone. I don't have a problem with the speaker playing sounds, only with input. When it asks if I heard the tone and I response Yes, it says it can't find the problem.I've tried disabling and reenabling the input devices, as well as different types of recording including the native recorder.In the Connector settings, when using the Mic/Speaker jack, I've tried sel

Can't turn off microphone test

Ran microphone test for HP laptop. Microphone works ok. But, now
can't turn test off; even keystrokes echo through speakers. Ran diagnostics; no problem found. Searched for solution on INet; found "reboot."
Restarted. No help.

 

"Test Microphone" Wont Turn Off.

So I went to test my microphone to see if it was working. I went in the settings tab and clicked system. Then I clicked Sound. I clicked the microphone button to test it, and it works. But now it wont turn off. I tried clicking the button again, but it
just wont stop testing for voice input. Does anyone know how to turn it off, or if it can be?
