The windows process "appmodel" has been recently using up a lot of CPU and I don't understand why. alsosecondary side question, why do I sometimes see command prompt open and shut super quickly. This happens every once in a while with it opening and shutting quickly in bursts.

  2. Windows 11 Pro - appmodel process very high CPU usage

    Hello, james10007

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

The appmodel process is a system process that handles the execution of Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps and components. UWP apps are apps that can run on different types of devices, such as PCs, tablets, phones, and Xbox. UWP apps are also known as Microsoft Store apps or Windows apps.

The appmodel process may use high CPU resources when it is launching or updating UWP apps. This may cause your system to freeze or slow down temporarily. Some possible solutions to reduce the CPU usage of the appmodel process are:

    • Restart the State Repository Service, which is a service that manages app state data for UWP apps. You can do this by searching and opening the Services app in Windows search box, finding the State Repository Service, right-clicking on it, and selecting Restart.
    • Reinstall Visual Studio, which is a development tool that may use UWP components.

    • Limit App CPU Usage: You can limit the number of CPU cores the app or process can use via the Task Manager. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, select Details tab, right-click on the process in Task Manager and select “Set Affinity” to change the CPU cores number.

  3. Appmodel's process eats 30-100% CPU

Today I made a clean installation of Windows 10 from latest installation media. I continuously get UI freezes for minutes. Task Manager shows me a process "appmodel" which uses most time more than 30 percent of CPU. Why it is so and how to fix it?

Windows 11 Pro - appmodel process very high CPU usage

Not sure what happened but the appmodel did not come up today. Instead, the state repository service host was using 90+% CPU. Set the affinity and restarted everything and it now takes less than 20% during that time.
