Windows 10: Why does Windows 10 look different on different monitors?

I have a new laptop, and Windows 10 looks somehow more modern on it - not sure if that's a great way to describe it.

The typeface seems different or something, I'm not sure, I don't know design principles, but it looks great.

I plugged it in to a monitor (full disclosure: a very cheap one), and it has gone back to the same old Windows 10 that I've always seen.

Still, viewing it on the laptop screen looks great and modern.

I've tried to take photos demonstrate, but not sure it's evident. Laptop screen and monitor

I considered that it could be because the laptop screen might be higher quality than the monitor, so I get it being less clear or whatever, but I don't get why the whole feel of Windows is so much more modern. Reading this back, I'm not even sure I'm making sense.

If it is indeed due to the screen quality, please let me know what type of monitor is required to get the modern feel/UI because I'll soon be in the market for a new one.

Different Backgrounds on each monitor

Hi,



Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



We understand that you are unable to set different wallpapers on each monitors.



We would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.



Method 1: Identify Displays.



Try using the Identify option to identify the displays and then check if you can set different background. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on System, and select
   Display on the left pane.
   
3. Now, under Rearrange your displays, click on
   Identify to identify the displays.
   

Refer screenshot below:









Once the displays are identified as Monitor 1 and Monitor 2, try setting the background.



Method 2: Duplicating Displays



One other thing we can try is to set the displays to Duplicate first and then Extend them.



To Duplicate the Displays, press Windows key + P, and select
Duplicate. Follow the same steps and select Extend.



After Extending the displays, check if we get the option to set different backgrounds.



Method 3: Reinstall Display Drivers.



If Method 1 and 2 didn’t help, we can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Display Drivers. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + X, and select
   Device Manager.
   
2. Expand Display adapters.
   
3. Now, right click on the Display
   device and select Uninstall Device.
   
4. Once the device is uninstalled, click on Actions and select
   Scan for hardware changes.
   
5. Restart the computer.

How to display different slideshow wallpapers (backgrounds) on each monitor

I followed those steps. When right-clicking on the image to select a monitor, I get:

• Set for all monitors
• Set for monitor 4
• Set for monitor 4
• Set for monitor 4
• Set for monitor 4

I understand you are unable to set different desktop background on the dual monitors. This issue might have been caused if the second monitor would not have been configured properly.

Method 1: Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if it helps.

Refer these steps:

1. Press Windows key + X, select
Control panel.

2. Change the view by
option on the top right to Large icons.

3. Click on troubleshooting and click on the
view all option on the left panel.

4. Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, try Method 2.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the Monitor drivers.

I suggest you to uninstall the Monitor drivers from the Device Manager and download the latest available drivers from the manufacturer website and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Follow these steps to un-install the drivers:

1. On the search bar type
“Device Manager”

2. On the left pane locate “Monitor” and expand by clicking on it

3. Right on the driver option and click “Uninstall’

4. Download the latest driver setup file from the manufacturer’s website and install it.
