    Why does windows 11 not retain size and position ? None of the support fixes worked.


    Hi. I've tried all the fixes shown in support that I foud and none of them worked. Already had the problem in the pass and every time I reinstall Windows 11, it does exactly the same thing. Everything is up to date on a fresh install, video card driver up to date, everything is up to date. All I tried did nothing and a command line that was supposed to fix it gave me a black screen, image never came back until I stopped the computer with main on/off button on computer base. UEFI usb key was used to do a fresh install. Everything is running right exept the windows that won't keep their sizes. G

    You might try this trick- I've not checked if it works in '10...

    Normally, if all is well, this is not a problem. There are 3rd party programs that claim to deal with this, but really they should not be necessary- it suggests some form of corruption.

    (Free - Note only seems to be specified to Win 8)

    You may wish to try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all data and programs in the hope that registry entries are corrected.

    Example: I observed this registry change which appears related to changing the size of a file explorer window and closing it:

    Windows 10 apps do not remember size and position on relaunch

    OK, so I just found a workaround.

    • Open the app and position and size it on monitor 2
    • Move the app to monitor 1
    • Close the app
    • Relaunch the app, it should retain its size and position on monitor 1
    • Move the app to the desired position on monitor 2
    • Relaunch the app and all should be green
    Let's just hope it continues to work on reboot.
