Windows 10: Why does Windows 11 sometimes take 10 min to rename a folder?

This is a naive question, but I wonder what Windows 11 does when I rename a file or folder? Sometimes, it goes rather quick, like 1s. In computer time that is still ages. Sometimes though, the File Explorer just stops doing anything really and I don't know what is going on. Quite frequently actually. How can such a seemingly simple task of renaming be so demanding on a modern OS? Is there some background processes that are executed, like virus scanner, file encryption??

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
