Windows 10: Why does Windows lie about my wifi signal strength?

I thought my wifi signal was strong because Windows' tray icon usually shows full or almost full bars, and I wondered why it was so slow at times. But then I took a look at my router admin interface and... low signal strength?! -65 dBm and 12 Mbps?! What's going on? Why is Windows lying about my signal strength?

When the router was installed, it was checked and the best place was selected. All the issue appeared very recently.

 

Quick question about wifi signal strength.

Wifi signals are also absorbed by water.

So the humidity in the air can affect the signal strength.

I find that Windows is a little optimistic with the signal strength bars.

You basically have 5 bars until the signal strength is down to about 25% then it drops off like a cliff.

So going from 4 bars to 1 bar can mean your signal has gone from 25% to 10%.

 

Incorrect WiFi signal strength

I meant the way Windows shows my signal strength incorrectly in the taskbar. If you refer to the image, you can see that the WiFi network (eduroam) I'm connected to shows full strength in the taskbar notification. However, the actual strength is represented
when I get a detailed view on the WiFi networks. My other devices show the signal strength correctly. It is only my Windows PC that shows the strength incorrectly
