  1. Why does Windows still artificially limit the size you can make a FAT32 partition?

I have a 64GB USB stick that was formatted for NTFS. I needed it formatted FAT32 so I could put a BIOS update on it and apply it, since my BIOS won't read NTFS.

Windows imposes an artifical limit of 32GB of FAT32 partitions, even though FAT32 supports partitions up to 2TB. Why did I have to plug the USB drive into a Linux box to format it with FAT32?

I get that this was a backhanded anti-consumer method to promote NTFS back in the day, but why has it not been removed yet?

C:\Windows\system32>format f: /fs:fat32 /q Insert new disk for drive F: and press ENTER when ready... The type of the file system is FAT32. QuickFormatting 57.8 GB The volume is too big for FAT32. Format failed. DISKPART> list vol Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- -------- ... Volume 5 F FAT32 Removable 57 GB Healthy

  2. in w10, how make a partition with FAT32 File-System

After reading all that, I can see why AOMEI omitted REFS. And I'm not tempted to try it in Disk Management.

OK. FAT32 can be much larger than I imagined. Interesting, but it's still really inappropriate to be that large in Windows due to artificial limitations. I'm not sure how far DOS can go with that size, either. But that TechNet article I posted earlier did
say it could be bigger than 32GB. OK.

  3. Can't format flash drive to FAT32 in Windows 10

That's actually not true. FAT32 supports volumes up to 2 TB for the minimum cluster size of 512 bites, but it can go higher. It is the Windows format utility that had this limitation since Windows 2000. So the solution is to use something else. Besides the
third party utilities suggested in this post, you could also use a Linux machine - I did it with Ubuntu. The real limitation of FAT32 is the maximum file size of 4 GB - some videos could exceed it.

Why does Windows still artificially limit the size you can make a FAT32 partition?

Why is there a limit of items that can be pinned to the start menu?

Why is there a limit of items that can be pinned to the start menu?

In previous builds there was a higher limit or no limit. If the item listed was off-screen, you just scrolled whether or not the start menu was full size or not. In build 10130 there is a limit, not only that if you have a lower screen resolution there is even a lower limit. Kind of waste to have a start screen (Not app list) if you are going to limit on how much can be put on it. Might as well use the taskbar or desktop shortcuts.
