Windows 10: Why doesn't microsoft rebuild the index using file dates descending from today?

MicrosoftI've lost my indexing again without warning!!!I have hundreds of thousands of files and it takes days to rebuild the index.Microsoft always responds that there is no way for users to prevent them from rebuilding the index.Today I couldn't find an email that was sent earlier this week in outlook. I then decided to create a search folder and told it to look in the subject and message body. I was able to find the email. It could not be found using the outlook search because it was not indexed, even after many hours of indexing.Microsoft appears to index from oldest to newest where the

Indexing Won't Rebuild

Hi ShiraAbraham, Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you, please let me know if you have tried this already

-Press Windows key + I and open Update & Security.

-Select Troubleshoot and find Search and Indexing.

-Double-click on the Search and Indexing Troubleshooter to run it.

Wait for the scan to be completed.

If these steps did not help to fix “Search Indexing Was Turned Off” error, our last recommendation would be to rebuild the Search Indexing:

-Open Windows Search and type Indexing Options.

-Click on the first matching option to open it.

-Click Advanced and open Advanced Options.

-Select Rebuild and white while indexing will be rebuild from scratch.

 

Windows 10 Indexing Rebuild incredibly slow - How can I speed up the process

Good day,

Running Windows 10 Pro 22H2 on a Dell PC 1TB SSD 16GB RAM Intel Core i7

Indexing before rebuild showed about 309,000 items

That included Outlook PST files and the data files - Index Properties Only

Started rebuild 1/27/2023 - today 2/4/2023 - 9 days later only 33,514 items indexed

I know indexing rebuild takes time - but this seems incredibly slow

Steps to date:

Windows is up to date. Dell Command and Dell Support assist current - no problems

Have run some troubleshooting tools in Windows and Dell apps - no issues noted.

Have run SFC scannow and DISM tools - system ok

Have run a PST repair tool

have reduced activity on the PC to give Indexing time to run - still slow

Are there services or other settings I should check to speed up the process?

I am not an IT tech and do not want to mess with the registry.

Windows 10 Windows Search / Indexing Stops Completing

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type Services.msc In the search box.
• Select Windows Search
• Restart the services and set the service as Automatic

If the issue persist try performing Rebuilding Index again.

To rebuild the index follow the steps below:

• Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
• Open Indexing Options in the Control Panel.
  
• Select the Advanced button in the Indexing Options window.
• Select Rebuild in the Troubleshooting section of the Advanced Options window.
• Select OK when it asks if you’re sure you want to re-build the search index.
