Windows 10: Why doesnt my hard drive E: Show up

The other day I was downloading something from youtube to edit which I always have with no problem Note: I've had this drive since 2021 but my pc was slowing down a little when I would tab out the streams id watch on kick or twitch and would stutter behind badly then my pc bluescreened, My pc then took long to boot up then when it loaded up it would show a blue question mark next to my E: Drive I would try to click the folder shortcut I made for my videos in my e drive on the quick access and it would say something on the lines of "E: location is not available" also to note my drive no longe

Hard Drive doesnt show up

Hi,

This can be due to the configuration of the the hard drive on your device. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

• If the specified device is an external hard drive or integrated on your computer when you've purchased it.
• If you've made changes to the basic input/output system (BIOS) of your device
  
• The version and build of Windows 10 that you're using on your device. To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this
  
  link.

In the meantime, we'd recommend checking the status of the hard drive when you experience your concern. This will give us an idea if the device requires to be initialized. To do this, you can perform the following:

• Search and launch Computer Management using Cortana.
• Click on Create and format hard disk partitions.
• Check if you see a drive listed as Disk 1 or Disk 10 (other names are possible).

Note: We advise caution on working with the Disk Management window as this may cause issues with the working drives on your device.

Hard Drive not Showing

• How are you connecting the Hard drive to your computer?
• Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a different computer and check if it works?

It's possible that your USB drivers are corrupt. I suggest you to try the following steps and check.

• Press Windows Key +R and type
  devmgmt.msc to open Device manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
  at the left bottom.
• Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click on
  Uninstall to remove it.
• Repeat these steps for the entire USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

External Hard Drive

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
