Why don't the apps launch until after I click the "show hidden icons" at the bottom right?

Hello,Some background, I'm currently running a fresh install of windows 11 pro on a new NVME. Previously had windows installed on an older smaller SSD but I've decided to upgrade. I am still using the SSD as additional storage, but the system files aren't fully cleaned from it not sure if this is impacting the issue i'm reporting. As for the issue itself, I noticed that whenever I attempt to launch an app that's also part of my startup so it may already be running in the background and in the hidden icons on the bottom right I noticed that nothing opens? but when I click the bottom right "sho

  2. Hidden icon menu not showing in taskbar

    Hi Olivier,

Always a good idea to read the Blog post.

Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22610 | Windows Insider Blog

    • [NEW] After upgrading to Build 22610, the “Show hidden icons” flyout in the system tray may disappear completely for some Insiders, even though it shows as “on” under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and “Other system tray icons”. We are investigating the issue. As a workaround if you need access to the icons that would show in the “Show hidden icons” flyout, you can go right-click on taskbar to open the Taskbar settings page, navigate to the “Other system tray icons” and individuals toggle specific apps to “On” until the issue is resolved.

    hidden icons

If the icon is completely missing & not just hidden.

Right click start & choose run enter

    "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll" without the quotes.

Choose a drive to eject, once ejected icon should return.

    Or:

Step 1. Go to > Settings > Privacy

Step 2. App Permissions > Background Apps.

Toggle ‘Let apps run in the background’ switch to off.

Restart computer. (action center not showing previously or new notifications)

Step 3. Go back to the settings page, previously mentioned in step 1 and 2.

Toggle the ‘Let apps run in the background’ switch to on,

    as described in Step 2.

    Restart once again.

Action Center is now showing notifications.

As well as the "Safe to remove" pop-up for flash drives without issues.

Information from user Geosammy on the TenForum.

Why don't the apps launch until after I click the "show hidden icons" at the bottom right?

Taskbar system/app icons hidden/disappear, icons limited?

    Thanks for all the suggestions:

    • Winamp appears twice because I was annoyed it was getting lost/hidden, as well, so I installed Winamp agent, whose purpose is to always appear in the taskbar -- sometimes when Winamp becomes hidden like Volume/Power, the agent is always there. It's intentional Why don't the apps launch until after I click the "show hidden icons" at the bottom right? :)
    • Yes, thankfully, the icons do correspond to the right system app/third-party app. Clicking on it does run it properly. It's just physically hidden until I go to Settings to dis/enable it that it returns back into view (BUT bumps another icon off the carousel)
    • I have one toolbar, the Win7 traditional "Quick launch" installed, native function, non-third party. No other toolbars/link/manually created element. I do have the "Show desktop" button there, but it fortunately doesn't touch any of the taskbar items when used. I have tried locking and unlocking the taskbar many times without change. I also have Classic Shell running (installed day one of Windows), never had an issue, in case it looks different. Here's a full screencap of the start menu here :

I do hope it's a simple registry hack that's limiting the displayed icons to ~4-5, forcing the rightmost one go into hiding. But have no idea which key might be responsible...? Aside from IconStreams (which I've deleted manually, and used the Tenforums batch file that resets it and restarts Explorer.exe)

    Much appreciated!
