Windows 10: Why has a new hard drive with the name “System Reserved D:” appeared on my PC

Hello. Hoping for any help. I have a systemreserved drive with 100 MB space on it designated as drive D:



I am wondering why this appeared and if I can deleteit safely. Seems odd that a system drive has a letter designation.

A little background. I replaced a bad SATA drivethat was designated as Drive D: I managed to copy everything to the drivelabeled F: in Disk Management before removing the bad drive.



The PC has the following drives:



C: Samsung SSD 970 EVO500 GB System drive with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

E: Blu-Ray Drive

F: 3TB SATA Drive

G: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250 GB

H: 4 TB SATA Drive

I: 2 TBSATA Drive



When I finished copying the drive and rebooted this system,I noticed a System Reserved Drive D: with 100 MB. It seems to be part of DriveI:



Drive I is an old SATA HDD that may have beenused as a system drive at one time in another PC. I did format it before addingit to this system.



Having some other issues. The main issue is withFile Explorer. When I navigate to a folder on any drive, I cannot access thesubfolders without first clicking on the address above in file explorer. Icannot access the individual folders without taking this extra step. If I justtry to click on a folder without clicking the address first, there is noresponse. Not sure what is going on with this. Seemed to be only affecting afew specific folders but now it is happening with every folder. Sometimes File Explorer works fine, but not often. Also, the items pinned to Quick Access are notalways available. If you click on Quick Access to display them, they often arenot showing.



I was going to try to fix this issue byreinstalling Windows10 with a repair installation keeping apps and files. Anyother suggestion would be welcome.

Oops nope you don't want to delete that one

I had one on the right end of my ssd after an upgrade so and it was indeed lettered Z

It was also named system reserved but was not EFI

 

A 2nd System Reserved on Another Hard Drive Under Its Own Drive Letter


Temporarily disconnect disk 0 (contains F and D) by disconnecting the SATA cable from it then reboot your PC. If it boot then you can safely delete the System Reserved D.

To delete the system reserved partition from disk 0 (Drive D), Open Admin command prompt:

1. diskpart
2. select disk 0
3. select partition 1
4. delete partition override
5. exit

After done with the above, You might also want to swap the SATA cables between disk0 and disk1 to make C drive on disk 0 and F drive on disk 1.
